Big Slide Mountain is an Adirondack classic, known for its striking views and gradual approach along the scenic Brothers ridge. As one of the few High Peaks that stands alone, without neighboring summits, it offers an independent and rewarding climb. This hike is well-loved for its steady incline, incredible vantage points, and an approachable challenge that makes it a favorite among first-time and seasoned hikers alike.

Special Considerations:
Hikers are encouraged to take the loop in a counterclockwise direction to make the most of the views on the ascent. The exposed rock along The Brothers can become slippery in wet conditions, making appropriate footwear essential. Certain sections require minor scrambling, particularly between the First and Second Brother. Parking at the Garden Trailhead is extremely limited and fills quickly, especially on weekends—arrive early or plan accordingly.

Big Slide via the Klondike Notch – 12.5 Miles, 2,800 Feet
This lesser-known route offers a remote and challenging alternative to the classic Brothers approach. The trail begins at South Meadows, off Adirondack Loj Road. From the parking area, hikers take the Klondike Notch Trail, winding through quiet forests and bypassing the more popular approaches.
The Klondike Notch Lean-to, about 4 miles in, is a great resting spot before beginning the ascent toward Big Slide. The trail gradually climbs, connecting with the Yard Mountain Trail, which leads directly to the summit. Though longer, this route provides solitude and an entirely different perspective of the mountain.
